چکیده

We study the statistics of the reflectance (the ratio of reflected and incident intensities) of an N -mode disordered waveguide with weak absorption γ per mean free path. Two distinct regimes are identified. The regime γN ≫ 1 shows universal fluctuations. With increasing length L of the waveguide, the variance of the reflectance changes from the value 2/15N, characteristic for universal conductance fluctuations in disordered wires, to another value 1/8N, characteristic for chaotic cavities. The weak-localization correction to the average reflectance performs a similar crossover from the value 1/3N to 1/4N . In the regime γN ≪ 1, the large-L distribution of the reflectance R becomes very wide and asymmetric, P (R) ∝ (1−R) for R ≪ 1− γN . PACS numbers: 78.20.Ci, 42.25.Bs, 05.40.+j Typeset using REVTEX

We investigated the effect of noise on propagation of two interacting particles pairs in a quasi one–dimensional random potential. It is shown that pair diffusion is strongly enhanced by short range interaction comparing with the non–interacting case.

In this work, it is shown that a non-zero vacuum energy density (the Casimir energy) for a scalar field appears in a continuous elastic solid due to the presence of a topological defect, the screw dislocation. An exact expression is obtained for this energy density in terms of the Burgers vector describing the defect, for zero and finite temperature.

We study the localization length of few interacting particles in a random potential. Concentrating on the case of three particles we show that their localization length is strongly enhanced comparing to the enhancement for two interacting particles.

We study the classical vibration problem of a chain with spring constants which are modulated in a quasiperiodic manner, i. e., a model in which the elastic energy is ∑ j kj(uj−1 − uj), where kj = 1 + ∆cos[2πσ(j − 1/2) + θ] and σ is an irrational number. For ∆ < 1, it is shown analytically that the spectrum is absolutely continuous, i.e., all the eigen modes are extended. For ∆ = 1, numerical s...

The static and time-dependent potential and surface charge correlations in a plasma with a boundary are computed for different shapes of the boundary. The case of a spheroidal or spherical one-component plasma is studied in detail because experimental results are available for such systems. Also, since there is some knowlegde both experimental and theoretical about the electrostatic collective ...
